Leading Light

about the blog

I’m Alan Carr (not the one off the telly). Welcome to my Rampside blog which will contain images from Rampside, Foulney Island, Roa Island and Piel Island. It is hoped to display a selection of these images in an exhibition at some point in the near future. I am a keen photographer whose paid job is working as an IT trainer in a Cheshire college of further education. I also host a regular independent music podcast called Darkhorse Radio (see my links).

My inspiration for this photo project was born from a determination to find and photograph the elegant Victorian beacon that I saw in an exhibition of Cumbrian coast photographs by leading landscape photographer Jem Southam. Once I had discovered the Rampside beacon I became fascinated by the surrounding area and ‘islands’ –  this blog contains photographs from some of my explorations  to date. It will be updated from time to time as  the project  continues.

This blog may also contain occasional contributions from Lynne Carr. She works with autistic young people, has just completed a Foundation Degree in Contemporary Photography and is hoping to make use of her skills through freelance projects.

I hope that you enjoy the photographs and that you might even be encouraged to visit the area. If you have any questions please leave a comment on the blog or contact me at blog@darkhorse.co.uk
